With SENEC, an established provider of photovoltaic storage systems and energy solutions, exiting the electricity tariff business, thousands of electricity cloud customers are being forced to reassess their options. At the same time, the market for electricity cloud models is now so limited that switching should, in principle, be relatively straightforward for customers. Which models are available, how do they differ, and which can be used independently of the hardware already installed?

Berlin, 17 September 2026. SENEC, an established provider of photovoltaic storage systems and energy solutions for private households, is discontinuing its electricity tariff business entirely. The New Energy Cloud team is receiving countless enquiries every day from SENEC.Cloud customers whose existing contracts are being terminated by SENEC. Many homeowners with their own photovoltaic system are now asking which solution can replace their existing SENEC electricity cloud while continuing to use their SENEC hardware. SENEC has not yet disclosed how many households are currently affected by the termination of SENEC.Cloud contracts.

What alternatives are available to affected customers?
As a result of SENEC's contract terminations, affected customers are now faced with the unnecessary challenge of quickly finding a suitable follow-on solution. The cloud market has changed significantly in recent years. Alongside traditional electricity cloud models, there are dynamic electricity tariffs, direct marketing models and other offers, often with different technical requirements. Most of these models, however, still share a strong dependency on the hardware of a specific manufacturer.

Hardware independence creates freedom of choice
For operators of existing photovoltaic systems and storage units, it is therefore highly relevant whether a cloud offer can be used with the hardware already installed or whether it is tied to specific manufacturers.
